Recently, I posted a Tik Tok explaining three home decor topics that seem to ruffle some feathers. One of those being: super cool toned/bright lighting in homes. Sure enough, the people expressed their thoughts on “warm lighting” & how it turns their home “yellow”.
Well, I’m here to tell ya – warm lighting does not have to equal yellow. Let me explain how to select the perfect “in between” bulb that won’t have your home looking like a surgical hospital nor a dingy 70’s living room.
The Kelvin Scale Chart is going to be your guide when it comes to determining the right light for your home. Below are a few images I grabbed from the web that I feel do an excellent job in describing warm vs cool lighting. This scale runs from 1k – 10k, with the majority of homes using 2700k -4000k.
To keep a home that is inviting all while allowing you to clearly see the task at hand: I would suggest staying between the 2700 – 3500k range. In my home we keep lamps at the 2700k mark, while our wafer lighting (can lighting) are set around the 3000k mark. However, in our garage & attic we have 4500k strip lights.
This keeps our home at the perfect medium: still cozy but not dingy, no yellow tints, and no one is fumbling into things we can’t see.
A few tips to keep the perfect ambiance in your home:
