A room your daughter can grow into.
When I design for a child, I always ask the child (or parent) what are their favorite colors. In this particular case pink and teal were immediately given. From there the room was built.
Starting with a rug is my go to in any design process, this is the base of the room and makes selecting other characteristics much easier. I have used this exact rug in a previous client’s home and when I heard “pink and teal” I knew it was going here as well. (Trust me when I say this rug may be the softest out there.) Additionally, It’s the perfect mix of whimsical and timeless making it suitable for girls of any age.
The client expressed the want for built in cabinetry around these gorgeous black paned windows. As you will see below in my vision board below, I swatched a dreamy light pink that I thought would pair perfectly in this room. However, I was quickly corrected by the one who will reside in this room, and teal it was. And I will happily say, she knew what she was doing because I could not love the color of these built in’s any more!!
We went with Benjamin Moore’s Boothbay Gray for built ins. This is a blue toned gray with a green undertone – aka: it can easily change colors depending on it’s surrounding. With this being a south facing window I knew it would pull more green due to the warm light, which is exactly what we wanted, so it worked perfectly here. If you have a north or east facing room, where light will not be as warm, it will present itself with a much more blue tone. Tip: always keep in mind the direction of lighting when picking out a paint color!
The details of this room were so fun to pull together, I wanted to create a space that felt light and airy but would also transition into the child’s teen years. Decor throughout the room can very well be changed while the base of the room can survive the early teen days.
The best part of this room was seeing the vision I created almost a year ago finally come to life! If you wish to shop this room click here!
xoxo,
Morgan
